000007644 520__ $$aYana Maneva is a space weather forecaster and service developer at the Royal Observatory of Belgium and the Solar-Terrestrial Centre of Excellence (STCE). Her work is focused on support of space weather service provision to the aviation community, particularly within the framework of PECASUS consortium, which is one of the four global centres providing space weather services to the international civil aviation organization (ICAO). As part of the PECASUS operations at STCE, part of Yana's role is to monitor for space weather activity in the Arctic region. This includes: - monitoring for scintillation events and possible related GNSS problems, - monitoring for possible increase in effective radiation dose levels after solar energetic particle storms, - checking for possible problems with radio communications in the auroral oval or polar cap regions. To support model estimations in the evaluation of space weather impacts in the Arctic region the role of situ measurements and satellite data over the region is very important. This can include, but is not limited to scintillation measurements, neutron monitor data, radio signal degradation, etc. Overcoming difficulties due to delays in data transmission from this region is also an important issue.
