Abstract: Images taken by the EUI / HRIEUV telescope onboard Solar Orbiter from perihelion have revealed the thinnest flare loop strands ever observed in the corona, down to the scales limited only by the HRIEUV pixel scale of about 100km. Up till now detailed observations of flare cores where quasi impossible in the EUV due to pixel saturation but are now available due to the ultra-short exposure images (0.04s) of solar flares taken with the HRIEUV telescope as part of a joint Major Flare Watch SOOP (Solar Obiter Observation Program). We will show a number of such observations, relate them to observations taken by other instruments and discuss implications for magnetic reconnection and coronal heating.
