Abstract: Spectroscopic binaries (SB) are nowadays routinely detected in every large spectroscopic survey, by measuring radial velocity (RV) differences either in temporal series of one visible component (SB1) or between two (or more) visible components (SBn, with n ≥ 2). Properly identifying SB will always be essential in the quality assessment of the stellar parameter and chemical abundance determinations of single stars. While wide binaries are not easily detected as SB, close binaries are efficiently probed as RV variables. Such close binary systems might be the progenitors of transient events like novae, cataclysmic variables and type Ia supernovae or more quiescent systems harbouring dormant compact companions. With the Non-Single Star (NSS) catalogue from Gaia DR3, the largest and homogeneous sample of SB were released last year, a quantitative leap of almost two order of magnitudes compared to the Ninth Catalogue of Spectroscopic Orbits (SB9), a reference compilation of SBs started more than a century ago. The Gaia NSS catalogue includes orbital solutions for 180000 SB1 and 5300 SB2. The SB9 catalogue includes orbital solutions for 2800 SB1 and 1200 SB2. In this talk, I will present a cross-match of SB9 with Gaia NSS of about 700 SBs. The statistics of this common sample will be discussed, in particular why this intersection is so small. In addition, instructive showcases will be presented, like Gaia binaries with underestimated periods or biased eccentricities. Other interesting features will be presented, like a sample of triple systems.
