Internation cooperation on ground-based and multi-vantage point observations of the sun

Pevtsov, Alexei ; Bechet, Sabrina

Talk presented at COSPAR on 2024-08-18

Abstract: We will present a summary of international cooperation from the ground-based solar observatories. We will review the status of Global Oscillations Network Group (GONG) – a primary source of ground-based solar data for operational space weather forecasting and provide an update on its future replacement (ngGONG by USA and NASSO/SPRING by EU). We will describe our experience in operating global networks, and outline the challenges and some current issues. We will also discuss examples of international coordination in the framework of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) working group on “Coordination of Synoptic Observations of the Sun” and the task team on ”Promoting international collaboration in multi-vantage observations of the Sun” of the International Living with a Star working group (ILWS-WG).
