Talk presented at 3th Workshop of the Belgian-Indian Network on Astrophysics (BINA), Graphic Era Hill University, India on 2023-03-24
Abstract: The Solar Orbiter mission is flagship mission of the European Space Agency. It was launched in February 2020 in an orbit around the Sun. Gravity Assist Manoeuvres around Venus bring the mission progressively closer to the Sun and out of the ecliptic. One of the cornerstone instruments onboard Solar Orbiter is the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI), a suite of 3 telescopes to image the solar atmosphere from the atmosphere to the chromosphere to the corona, with the highest resolution and the largest field of view ever. In this talk we will present the results of Solar Orbiter so far, including the discovery of so-called tiny “campfire” brightenings in the solar atmosphere but also the largest solar eruptions ever observed.
