Abstract: Long-term radial-velocity monitoring of different families of evolved stars is being carried out with the high-resolution HERMES spectrograph mounted on the MERCATOR telescope (La Palma, Spain). Here we report on new binary AGB star candidates as well as new binary CH stars. The AGB-manqué channel is also discussed and is needed to explain binary systems with helium white dwarfs. Determining the orbital parameters of these families of binary stars is essential to constrain not only the mass-transfer mechanisms, but also RGB and AGB evolution.
