Abstract: Fast rotation seems to be the major factor that triggers the Be phenomenon. Fast surface rotation can be favored by initial formation conditions such as metal abundance. Models of rapidly rotating atmospheres and evolutionary tracks are used to determine the fundamental stellar parameters of 120 Be stars located in spatially well-separated regions and to imply that there is some metallicity gradient between them. We study the effects of this gradient on the fast rotator nature of these stars.
